Chapter Six Conclusion

6.1 Major Findings

This study investigates the effects of Unit Integrity Instruction on junior middle schoolstudents’English vocabulary level and vocabulary learning strategies.The results after theexperiment show that the experiment has reached the expectations of the research to someextent,that is,students have made adjustments on the vocabulary learning,and students havemade obvious progress in vocabulary learning.The primary findings are outlined as followsbased on the data analysis.

First,vocabulary teaching based on Unit Integrity Instruction helps students adjust theirlearning strategies and master English vocabulary effectively.Specifically speaking,juniormiddle school students can equip themselves with an assortment of newly-learned methodsand strategies to enhance their grasp of new English words.In the process of vocabularylearning,students gradually shift from mechanical memory at the beginning,and thenstudents begin to take advantage of Unit Integrity Instruction to promote vocabulary learning.During the process of learning new vocabulary,students in the EC are more likely to realizethe importance of learning vocabulary in context and through use.Moreover,students in theEC start to build a linkage between the knowledge they have learned with new words andwould prefer to cooperate with each other and come up with their own achievements aboutsemantic network.

Second,the results of vocabulary tests prove that the vocabulary teaching based on UnitIntegrity Instruction have raised junior middle school students’English vocabulary level.The statistical results show that the vocabulary level of the experimental class improvedconsiderably after the reception of Unit Integrity Instruction.In contrast,there indicates nostatistically significant change in the CC’s pre-and post-test scores while using the PPPvocabulary teaching approach.Moreover,it can be demonstrated that students in the EC hada marked improvement in their English vocabulary test scores in comparison to theconventional vocabulary teaching method or prior to the formal experiment.This suggeststhat vocabulary teaching from the perspective of Unit Integrity Instruction is conducive tostudents’English vocabulary learning.
