Secondly, narrow reading has also achieved remarkable results in improving students’ reading ability. Before the introduction of narrow reading instruction, there was no significant difference in English scores between the experimental and control classes. After the teaching experiment, the results of the students in the experimental class were significantly higher than those in the control class. It can be seen that narrow reading can improve students’ reading ability. By concentrating on reading texts in a certain field, students can accumulate a large number of vocabulary and sentence patterns and become familiar with the expressions and linguistic characteristics of that field. This helps students understand the text more quickly during the reading process, improving reading speed and accuracy. At the same time, narrow reading can also help students develop reading strategies, such as prediction, inference, summarization, etc., so that they can flexibly use these strategies when facing texts of different difficulties and improve reading comprehension skills.
In summary, narrow reading has a significant role in improving students’ reading interest and reading ability. In actual teaching, teachers should make full use of the advantages of narrow reading, select appropriate reading materials for students, and guide them to read and think deeply, so as to improve students’ reading interest and reading ability.
