CHAPTER 7CONCLUSION
7.1 Major findings
By observing and analyzing data, major findings on each research question setout in the first chapter will be listed below:
The first question is:What are the features of information digging in issueidentification?
The features of information digging in issues identification are analyzed fromthree aspects:what stages this process follows, how the information knowledgecategories are developed, and how the information knot types are developed. It isfound that information digging follows four stages:Introduce the parties,Get thebasic demand of the parties, investigate details of dispute events, and ask for thesettlement schemes. In the process of issue identification, discourse information usedfor information digging can generally be divided into three categories:factualdiscourse information, attitudinal discourse information, and procedural discourseinformation.Factual information is used to investigate the factual details anddetermine liability.Attitudinal information is used to explore motivations andsettlement options.Procedural information information is used to ensure the order andpace of information digging.Through the analysis of information sharing,it is foundthat each sharing category corresponds to a specific information content in our data, and its employment conveys a certain intent of HFI in issue identification. In mostinstances, unknown facts and attitudes(b-event)are dug by the HFI to facilitate theunderstanding of the disputes and identification of issues.Locally shared indisputablefacts of dispute(c-event)can help the parties establish common ground on issues.Theparties’divergent attitudes on issues(d-event)are expected to defuse disagreementthrough summary and combination with other information.Social norms, values, andethics related to dispute resolution(o-event)can educate the parties on how toproperly solve disputes by supporting social endorsement.
