If the types of Theme are not diverse, the characteristics of complexity will not beprominent. It will eventually affect the selection of TP patterns(Wang,2010).
Chapter Six Conclusion
6.1 Major Findings
With all the collected data and analysis using qualitative and quantitative methods in theexperiment, the study has the following main findings:
For the first research questions,it is found that the writing teaching based on thematicprogression patterns has some positive effects on the complexity of high school students’continuation task.Firstly, when describing the story, the data shows that students seemed to beable to use other ways to begin a sentence instead of just relying on nouns and pronouns astraditional subject positions. They were able to explore various techniques, such as usingprepositional phrases, clauses,or even descriptive phrases,to initiate their sentences, expecting to make the story more vivid, engaging, and dynamic. This shift in theircontinuation task was not only in line with the characteristics of narrative writing but alsoaligned with the evaluation criteria for continuation tasks, which encouraged creativity anddiversity in sentence structures. Moreover, for the use of internal Themes within multipleTheme,EC exhibited significant complexity.Instead of overly relying on structural Themes astransitional elements, students demonstrated a better understanding of narrative construction. The components that were suitable for narrative writing within multiple Theme were beingused in a more diversified and strategic manner. This included employing a variety ofconjunctions, modal Theme to create rich ideas and events, enhancing the overall coherenceand flow of the narrative.Such sophisticated use of internal Themes reflects a deeperengagement with the narrative form and an advanced ability to manipulate language foreffective storytelling.Thirdly, when considering the complexity of TP patterns, the variety ofTP patterns utilized by students in the post-test highlighted several significant aspects.Apartfrom the results from the post-test,the interview could also prove the effects.
